Kerala DGP retiring in June; who will be next chief of Police force?

The Kerala Director General of Police (DGP) Shaik Darvesh Saheb is retiring on June 30 and the state Government has initiated the process to pick up the top cop. In the first step, it has sent a communique to six state cadre IPS officers, who have completed 30 years of service, seeking their willingness and resume to be considered for inclusion in the list of probables that will be forwarded to the UPSC. The Government has sought consent from  Ravada Chandrasekhar (1991), Yogesh Gupta (1993), Manoj Abraham (1994), S Suresh (1995), and M R Ajith Kumar (1995). On the recommendation of a high-level screening committee, the Kerala Cabinet has recently promoted Additional Director Generals of Police (ADGPs) Ajith Kumar and S Suresh to the DG rank. Of the six officers, Ravada and S Suresh are currently working in prominent organisations and have the chance of becoming Directors of the IB and the SPG respectively. Hence, it’s not known whether they will be willing to throw their hats in the ring for the top post. So, the race is confined to rest of the four officers.
